I wrote it down while I still could remember how to find other words to choose.
The list was long and the blank spots abundant, but I put my faith in you.
When we met I was still obsessed with seasons, waterways and altitude.
And spring came with ripe disappointments, but I put my faith in you.

The morning was pretty, so I crossed the excuse for a river that runs through this city.
And every fiber in my body shivered.

Who knew there was truth in the pipelines crawling somewhere below our feet.
Like five years erased by a lifetime when you turned your back on me.
My senses sharpen as it's getting colder, every detail's a sight to see.
But what's more, the scent of your shoulder when you turned your back on me.

So drenched in self pity I'll cross the excuse for a river that runs through this city.
With a message that's hard to deliver: When everyone drowns, I will be the last one to gasp for air.
I won't make sound, just a tiny movement towards the light I once discovered in the night.
That since have seemed to follow you everywhere.
