Well, the sun went down but we'd catch it fast, over an ocean heading east.
Your trusty old suitcase and my Guild guitar were finally resting somewhere under the seats.
And I wanted to tell you the truth, something I honestly never do.
As your fingers tapped rhythms on my collarbone, always steadily on the move.

At least that's how I remember it, though I'm not sure that's how it went down.
And I'm chewing bits of the growing distance between two towns.

My train of thought had reached somewhere steep, but you just smiled and went to sleep.
You were always one step ahead of me, even immersed in your deepest dreams.

At least that's how I'll remember you, though I'm not sure that's who you are.
And I'm digging in to the growing distance that fills the gaps and must surely haunt the stars.
They're always further apart. Just tiny little sparks, until we're dust somewhere in the dark.

I hope this is how you'll remember me: Laced in infinity.
'Cause I'm digging in to the growing distance, and the slight possibility the pulse might just be weak.
Soon we're a dot between the beams. So it's only up to me to know my velocity.
